Jesse Owen — Head Football Coach

Coach Owen has established Gardner Edgerton as one of Kansas’ premier high school football programs, building a culture defined by toughness, discipline, and consistency. Since taking over the Trailblazers, Owen has guided GEHS to sustained success at the highest level, highlighted by two Kansas Class 6A State Championships (2023, 2024), one Runner-up (2022), and a Semi-Final appearance (2025).

During his tenure, the Trailblazers have become a perennial contender, making multiple deep playoff runs and consistently competing for titles. Owen’s teams are known for their physical brand of football, anchored by a tough defense and a physical, efficient offense. His ability to prepare teams for high-pressure moments has been evident in Gardner Edgerton’s postseason success and championship performances.

Owen has compiled an impressive overall record at GEHS (46-15 overall) (18-3 playoffs), while developing numerous all-state performers and collegiate athletes. His emphasis on fundamentals, accountability, and preparation has created a program where players maximize their potential both on and off the field.

For his outstanding achievements, Owen was named Sports in Kansas 6A Coach of the Year in both 2023 and 2024. He was also honored as the Kansas City Chiefs Eric Driskell High School Coach of the Year in 2023.

Beyond the scoreboard, Owen prioritizes the development of well-rounded student-athletes. His program places a strong emphasis on academic achievement, leadership, and community involvement, ensuring Trailblazer players represent their school and community with pride.

Widely respected throughout Kansas high school football, Owen’s legacy at Gardner Edgerton is defined not only by his two state championships, but by the championship standard and culture of excellence he has built within the program.

Owen is a proud product of Olathe North High School, where he helped win the school’s first-ever state championship as a player in 1996. He was also named Kansas All-Classification Defensive Player of the Year that season. Coach Owen was also an assistant coach on Olathe North's 2003 & 2009 state championship teams.

A native of Olathe, Kansas, Owen is a graduate of Pittsburg State University where he was a stand out player for the Gorillas. He and his wife, Diane, have two children — Taylor and Eli.

Beyond the field, Owen is deeply committed to developing well-rounded student-athletes who excel in the classroom, demonstrate strong leadership, and positively represent their school and community.
