History of Gardner Edgerton

  • Gardner-Edgerton is located in southwest Johnson County, Kansas, approximately 30-35 miles southwest of downtown Kansas City, and sits at the heart of one of the fastest-growing areas in the Kansas City metropolitan region.

  • Recognized for its strong sense of community, excellent education system, and high quality of life, Gardner-Edgerton is a welcoming pair of communities offering the perfect blend of small-town charm and modern suburban convenience in the Kansas City Metro area.

  • Situated just about 30 minutes from downtown Kansas City, our area has become known for its growing selection of shopping and dining options, an expanding park and trail system, and family-friendly entertainment and events throughout the year.

  • When Gardner was founded in 1857 along the historic Santa Fe, Oregon, and California Trails and later incorporated in 1887 — with neighboring Edgerton following in 1883 — early residents could hardly have imagined how these railroad and trail towns would grow. We proudly honor our roots as historic communities while embracing our present as vibrant, family-oriented places in one of the most dynamic regions in the Midwest.

  • However, what truly makes Gardner-Edgerton unique is our warm and welcoming community. Whether you’ve just moved in or have lived here all your life, we couldn’t be happier that you’re here.
