Bio
Coach Ryan Lonergan has been with the Trailblazer program for 5 seasons. His coaching career spans 25 seasons including 3 State Championships and 2 Runner-Up Finishes. His stops included his alma mater Iola High School (1999), Olathe North (2002), Shawnee Mission West (2003-2010, 2015-2020) Shawnee Mission South (2011-2014), and now here at GEHS. Coach Lonergan has had many duties as a football coach including Head Coach, Defensive Coordinator, Offensive Line, Defensive Line, Receivers and DB's.
He currently serves as an Offensive Line Coach alongside Coach Drew Brown and also as the Director of Football Operations. At GEHS, Coach Lonergan has coached multiple all-state offensive linemen including Kaleb Moore, Evan Norris, Ethan Whittley, and others.
Coach Lonergan holds many responsibilities at GEHS outside of football. He is the Lead Teacher of the Blazer Success Academy. He also is the Building Level 504 Coordinator. Coach Lonergan also coaches softball at GEHS.
HS/Collegiate Play: Coach Lonergan played high school football at Iola High School where he was an all-state TE/DE. He went to Fort Scott Community College for his first two seasons of college football where he was a team captain and all-conference DL. Coach Lonergan finished his college playing career at Pittsburg State University where he was a part of an MIAA Championship team in 2001.
Interesting Facts: Coach Lonergan and Coach Owen played together at Pitt State and were roomates for two years following graduating college. Coach Lonergan's sister, Katy, works for the University of Notre Dame serving as Advisor to the Head Football Coach, Associate Athletics Director - Strategic and Football Communications. Coach Lonergan played high school football for his dad, Lee "Pat" Lonergan, at Iola HS.
Family: Coach Lonergan is married to Katie for 20 years and together they have 5 children (Avery, Hannah, Quinn, Cora, and Brooks). They reside in Edgerton and enjoy spending time on their land with their animals.
